SmartAsset is based on the Microsoft .NET framework utilizing object-oriented philosophy and multi-tiered architecture. As such, it not only provides rich functionality, it extends the user interface to allow a variery of deployment options including both the traditional graphical user interface (GUI) and browser style interfaces and also mobile deployment via PDAs and as embedded functionality within the Microsoft Office suite of products..

The I/O layer provides a pathway to stored procedures on a SQL Server Database.
The exciting innovation of this approach is that we can change the nature of the Server Side to allow it to ‘talk to’ other asset management products to provide a better user interface, thereby opening up options for deployment for users of any ERP/EAM/CMMS.
Server
Server Side Edition (SSE). This is where the business logic resides in the form of stored procedures that are executed on the server thereby better harnessing the power of the server while reducing the amount of network traffic. It is also here that workflow processing occurs and resultant notifications in the form of emails and SMS are generated.

The following diagram represents the SmartAsset Architecture depicting the four deployment options and their connectivity to the database server.
BDC – Browser Deployment Capability
ODC – MS Office Deployment Capability
SDC – SmartClient Deployment Capability
MDC – Mobile Deployment Capability

By embracing the Microsoft Software-plus-Services approach, SmartAsset marries functional requirement to the most appropriate deployment method, thereby offering considerable options for the main functional roles of the typical SmartAsset user. See the matrix below.
