Deployment Options

Browser Deployment Capability (BDC)

BCD is the web deployment option for SmartAsset and offers direct access to selected functions from any browser connected to the internet without the need for expensive 3rd Party connectivity tools.

SmartClient Deployment Capability (SDC)

SmartAsset Smart Client Deployment Capability (SDC) This is the client/server deployment of SmartAsset. All of the SmartAsset functionality can be reached via this Microsoft look and feel interface, or it may be limited to provide system administration functions only.

Office Deployment Capability (ODC)

SmartAsset Office Deployment Capability (ODC) enable deployment of key asset management functions including asset navigation and monitoring, maintenance and project planning, task assignment, and reporting via the Office 2007 and 2010 products, namely Outlook, Excel and Projects, thereby providing their users with the same comfort and familiarity enjoyed with those products.

Over the years we have had many requests to interface to Microsoft Office products for the purposes of printing and viewing documents, planning projects and reporting functions. By installing the SmartAsset Office 2007 Extensions, SmartAsset customers are able to deploy functionality to their users via the Office 2007 products. For example, the Task and Calendar functions of Outlook can be overlaid with SmartAsset functions in order to navigate the asset hierarchy, display planned maintenance jobs as tasks and to show them in the Calendar based on their due dates.

Additionally, maintenance jobs can be selected into Excel worksheets for subsequent analysis and presentation.

These are just a few examples of how SmartAsset functionality can be deployed by a widely accepted Microsoft tool that is already familiar to the user. This ability constitutes significant savings to the customer in relation to training, productivity and deployment costs. Further reading can be found here for Outlook and here for Excel.

The third option for Offcie deployment is via MS Projects. Here selected jobs in SmartAsset can be viewed and manipulated in Projects. Further reading can be found here for Projects.

Mobile Deployment Capability (MDC)

Using  the portable device development and deployment capabilities of Microsoft's Visual Studio, we were able to produce a cut-down version of the SmartAsset application that is also deployed to mobile devices, and  runs against the SQL Server Compact Edition database.

The end result is a mobile deployment option for SmartAsset that provides for many scenarios including the following that is proposed to be implemented for a prominent Melbourne-based multinational organisation:

Using desktop SmartAsset, a maintenance planner identifies and schedules all work to be performed on specific equipment allocated to a nominated employee/contractor. By selecting a ‘Mobile Deployment’ option this work is then ‘replicated’ to a mobile database using publication and subscription, including all equipment items for the area in question (in case unplanned work is performed on equipment for which no work was planned). The PDA containing this database is handed to the employee/contractor, who then has access to the Asset Navigator, Asset Details, Jobs, Planning, and Standard Activites.
